Signet Ring with Engraving of Shears - 15th century
Signet Ring with Engraving of Shears - 15th century
This silver signet ring features a beautifully crafted oval bezel engraved with an open pair of shears and an inscription in black lettering. The shoulders are adorned with three bands of fluting and pearled edges, adding a touch of elegance. This ring comes in Gold or Silver plating on top of a solid brass base.
The open shears show that it belonged to a member of a tailor's guild. Tools were often carved on signet rings to indicate membership in a guild and thus to confer status upon the wearer. The original was likely made in Germany.
The real ring, from 1475-1525, is held at the Victoria and Albert Museum. https://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O118953/ring-unknown/
Please note: gold plated rings are not intended for constant wearing. Please take your ring off while taking a shower, washing the dishes, etc. to keep the gold shining longer.
